Potatoland was founded in 1994 by Antonio Pericao and Lucy Santinhos. Antonio had already been in the produce business since the 1980s, and Lucy grew up in a family that ran their own grocery store. Between Antonio's feel for the produce and Lucy's understanding of the customer, they saw the opportunity in processing potatoes fresh for restaurants that didn't have the time or space to do it themselves.
What began as a small operation is now a family business in its second generation. Antonio and Lucy built Potatoland together over three decades. Antonio has since stepped back and still advises on the bigger calls, while Lucy is as involved as ever. Their son Marcelo now runs the day to day. He grew up in the business, and the lesson his parents drilled into him from day one is the same one that built it.
